Festae/Ornatum?

shieeet.. Try to suceed ornatum with Ornatum first..

The exCichlasoma/Cichlasoma (not sure the proper use) genus isn't really the same as Amphilophus or other genuses, its more of a dumping grounds for cichlids with no proper placement in a genus. So its really not in the same genus. Festae should be able to cross with any CA Cichlid but Ornatum is a SA if I'm not mistaken. So I'm thinking its not possible unless its in a similar boat as Festae being a CA living in SA.

FESTAE, Ornatum, Gephryum and Atromaculatum are ALL closely related and exCichlasoma. Ornatums is Festae's closest relative. I've read that BS about Festae being a CA, its all speculative. Colombia, Equador and Peru are as SA as it gets.

Those 4 are more closely related to the cichlids living in Central America than the other SA cichlids. Thats just a fact. Theres also a couple species that in CA that are actually closer to SA relatives. Based on where they live, yes they are SA cichlids, genetically they are more similar to the Centrals :)

Cool thread, I owe 5 ornatum and have 3 alone in a 300g trying to bread. I always wanted to get some festae. And wondered if they could even co-exist in my 300 never mind bread..

Ornatums are way overated.. festaes dont wanna cross with them:grinno:
