I just put my festae pair together to try and get them to spawn.. they are both about 10-12 inches.. so far the male is beating on the female pretty good, i know this is kinda normal, they are in a 125 and there is plenty of hiding places how long shouls i let this go on before i divide them up, since they are almost the exact same size i can not really put a divider up with a small hole. i just added a bunch of giant danios and a tinfoil barb but it doesnt seam to distract him. any info would be much appreciated

You could use a divider that's made of the .5" egg crate and secure it as well as possible. Put a rock on the female side of the tank as close to the divider or against the divider. When the female is ready to spawn she will clean the rock and she will lay eggs on the rock, the male will fertilize the eggs thru the egg crate. The percentage of fertility is less but it beats having your female killed. JMO. Good Luck.
Forced mating with REALLY aggressive specimens is a big challenge. He's testing her, only way he'll fertilize the eggs upon finding out she's worthy.
