I just got a pair of young Festae (red terror) and It was to be honest an impulse buy. Any advice on them would be helpful. At the moment the larger one that I think is male is about 4inches and the smaller Who I think is female is around 3inches. They are in a 55gal with a 8inch Pleco. I know eventually they will need a larger tank. But as far as anything else goes Help would be nice. I have done lots of research but any first hand expierience is nice to have. I will put up pics tomorrow. Or later today Seeing as its past midnight.

I have my festae pair in a 60 with a 8-9 in plec my self just them three. Ive had mine for a bit past 7 months already and by far they are my favorite fish.. Only thing i do is feed them regularly and do once a month water changes they seem perfect. I have the female as my avatar. What kind of advice where you looking for. by the way you should post pics so every one can see the little guys..

I have a large male festae in my 125 gal. and any tank mate i try to put into the tank, even large armoured catfish, become fish food in a matter of a day. Im sure each fishes attitude varies but in the 7 years i have had the fish as soon as it matured it attempted to kill everything in the tank to the point where i had to sell off all my other fish.

Im still searching for a female festae to try to put into the tank but even at that i dont know how favorable the result would be

it's realli hard to tell their sex at that size. just make sure u don't get 2 females together...cuz they would easily kill each other. also, even if they're different sex, they don't always pair up. and when that happens, u will, again, have one trying to kill the other. so just keep ur eyes on their behavior for now

Once a month with festae that size in a 60G? :|

yeah thats what I said once they are happy and anyone can tell when fish are happy.. I have that tank set with undergravel filter plus the external filter... just one flower pot and a few rocks... No need for so many water changes, Ive done my research... If you can prove me otherwise im not changing my method...

Festae like room and clean water I have 4 festae in a 75 with 1 brood and 1 unhatched nest..............started with 9 festae and have had to give one or 2 away a month for the past 4 months as they have grown to 5-7"........I'll be letting go of another female this week..........They eat well feeding on massivore once daily, I break the pellets up for the 3 females the male eats several whole pellets daily. These fish create alot of ammonia so i do 50% water changes everyweek religiously to keep the levels @ zero. My festae don't seem to mind a higher ph of 8 seeings how they breed and temps @ 76-78.............I had a trinadad pleco in with them however the waste created by plecs is astronomical..........to favor cleaner water the plec was removed.............as for decor natural river rock with a clay base help stabilze the ph and a few boulders with some driftwood help the females to define terrortory.........they aren't the fastest growing fish, i had 8 2-3" in a 55 for a few months but once they start running out of their own space the violence starts plan as i have to get atleast a 125 long to house your festae pair for life, once they start hanging at the surface or bitting at each other it's time to upgrade. Enjoy!
