Okay.... just shy of flipping the Festae over and sexing it what other "characteristics" will help determine the sex of said fish?

I was told that by "eye-balling" the fish you can tell the sex by the pattern on the tail. I was told that males will have speckling on the tail whereas females do not and have more of a solid, patternless tail. My research on this site has me leaning that way also, mainly by looking at the pictures posted. Thanks.

Females will develop a darker front half of the dorsal fin as they mature. Also, in very mature fish, male will have green on the face whereas females will be more red/orange.

I'm thinking that House_64 may be asking the best way to identify Juveniles

Adults seem easy judging by the incredible coloration of the female Festae

Are you asking about Juvies? I wana know too :D

there really is no way besides venting them to tell in Juviniles that I know of. They look the exact same to me until they reach sexual maturity then their patterns start to differ greatly. If somebody has a way to sex juvies please let me know but I do not believe there is one, sorry

I was told the other day from a trusted LFS owner to just buy a handful and cross your finger that there all not the same sex!:ROFL:But I think he thought I was really going to buy that many just to get a female. Yea right.:grinno:

If anyone figures out this million dollar question i would be interested in finding out what you come up with. I am new to this Festae owning but I am in love with mine he is a tru winner.
