I picked up three Festae three weeks ago, and one of them has grown a lot in that time. I am not sure if this guy is old enough to sex or not. If not how old usually?

The flash washes out the color, his fins have a lot more red than the camera lets on and is starting to show more iridescence than the camera shows too.

If this guy is to young, about how big usually is it when you can tell? Also any clear cut signs that are tall tale features of sex as it does age? This guy has grown a good bit
faster in the last 3 weeks than the other too.

Ok,I thought it might be but wasn't sure. What should I look for as they age to tell male from female?

Too young but if the fish looks as if its smiling its a female if its a bank face or frowning a male not 100% sure if this is correct also I've noted females to be more interactive and males more skittish and the size to sex them is 4-6 is when you can but mines like 3 and already has redding coming in as only females get those nice reds

Aren't you buddies with Jason? He's going to give better advice than most of the people on this forum as far as sexing and breeding festae. Did you get these from him?

Haha ya I am. I just thought I would ask on here and use it as an excuse to be a little more active on the forum. I am actually surprised he hasn't chimed in on here, figured he would have lol. O and yes, the Festae Came from Jasons pair :D

I feel bad some times texting and calling him all the time asking him questions.... I am a total newb lol.

Correction! These did not come from my pair. These are part of the wild group I got last fall!!:) ill have to come by some time and ill see about sexing them for you.

Haha, Ok I stand corrected. I thought these were from your pair. So these guys are wild caught?

Yeah I never raised any fry from any pairs I received over the last year. Those are part of the wild group which were imported last fall:)
