Mine always had a bit of red in their fins from an early age. But their colors became better at around 3.5". Now they are in breeding dress and they look awesome! The green on the male is beautiful. Feed them well and do regular water changes (once a week for me) and they will show their colors.
IME festae start coloring up around 4 inches. Good luck, they are a beautiful fish with nasty tempers.
yeah mine had some little spangles ever since he was about 1.5-2in but after that really started to get nice red in his fins and more spangling and he is about 3-3.5in now. but these guys really do get more colorful with age you just have to be patient
Mine are starting to show good colour around 3-4", I'd try take some pics but they're so damn shy still!
