Well I've had my festae fry for about 3 months and now have color in there fins. I'm thinking when they are about 3-4 inches or so they get some color in their bodys, not sure about that though.

There are a few factors that make the "color up" time a little unpredictable, for staters, it's been my experience several times, that dominant status is more a key factor than size. I read your getting 5 x 1", if you get males in the bunch you'll notice one fish getting larger faster and he will get a yellowish gold body with faint red fins at about 5" by 7" he will be showing maroon all over with turqoise around the head. If their are more than one male along with the dom. odds are they won't reach any type of potential until they are removed and become dom's themselves. Females will show black bars basically thru out their entire lives @ 4-5"
with a dom male present 1 will color up quickly but no garuntees shes the mate, and may very well get killed by the male quickly. Dom. males are very picky. As for the other females if enuff room is available 2 might lite up at the sametime on either end of the tank while the other f's basically stay out of everyones way and keep their juvi look til' the amount of F's thins or they are removed and given a chance for Dom. status themselves.
