Some time ago, I had a spawning of many from a pairs of WC Festae. At the time, I didn't have the resources to raise yet another big group of fry so caught out two of the best survivors from the Festae community tank that had avoided being eaten and started to raise them. After a while, the male of the two became dominant and the other fish in the nursary tank started bullying the female and she basically stopped eating. I put her in a tank by herself and tried bringing her on but she seemed to give up the will to live and she suffered from a hollow belly (clearly worms). Yet after numerous attempts to treat her she just wouldn't eat and looked painfully thin. In the end, I decided to hand her over to a pet store local near to me and they put her in one of their quarantine tanks to started treating her themselves.
Anyway after a few months I remembered her and asked had she made it to which the owner replied yeah she's still in there somewhere.. The tanks don't have lights and she would have been living in darkness most of the time. So we had a look and there she was... no hollow belly and had clearly gained some weight. So the moral of the story never give up on a nice fish.
