Festae tail

Bought a festae a couple of days ago, thought its tail had been nipped but it looks like a deformity now.. Is there a way to sort this? I've heard of people cutting off the tail and it grows back normally, not sure if I would be confident enough to do this though! Also, can someone sex this festae? All the pictures I see of festae are yellow/red/orange and this one's really dull..

I know nothing about festae or mayan cichlids, someone sold it to me as a festae.. Is this tail normal then? Better find out about mayans now..

Pretty annoyed but I guess the guy who sold it to me probably didn't know any better, will have to rehome this little guy.

No offense but why would u look for and buy a festae if you no nothing about it? Its like people just hear the name and see one pic on the internet and just go searching for one without any research.

Next time just post a pic on here...save yourself money, and trouble! I like seeing pictures of festaes, and will say whether it is, or it isn't all day

Why get ride of it ? Mayans are great fish. Maybe not as colorful; a lot easier to take care of.

I think its the nostalgia of owning a real Red Terror. Plus nothing beats a true Female Festae
