My five Festae are nearly a year old. I have one positive male, one suspect male, and three females. They have a 120 all to themselves other than a single female Convict. The tank looks big and empty most of the time. They tend to hide or stay at the bottom. I was considering adding a few other cichlids to add some movement and life to the tank that usually looks still and boring. Is this a good idea or should I just leave it as is and wait for them to grow larger? What other cichlids could I add that would work with these guys.

I wouldn't add any more cichlids, as you seem to be pretty full. If you want somethig more in the tank, maybe add some giant danios and silver dollars

i agree

I ahve mine with severums and texas in a 150. I think I'm getting pretty lucky though.

You didn't state the size but they must be fairly small or it would be ww3 in a 5' tank with that many festae.I would leave it as is or maybe a couple more female cons.Be prepared to re-home everyone as soon as a pair forms. They guys get very nasty when breeding.

think if a pair form from those you already have, then you'll soon just have two in your 125... wouldnt risk adding any other cichlids at this stage... things will get a bit more lively and colourful as they grow anyway... best of luck with them though.. lovely fish...

They are small. The biggest is around 5". It is true that if a pair forms I will have to move the rest out anyway. I am hoping for a pair too. I just have no luck with dithers. They kill every thing. I have no idea why the female Con is allowed to live. She is pretty tough though.
