What would be the minimum tank size for a pair of festae adults,They would be the only fish in the tank, could I get away with a 90g 48x18?.I'm thinking of getting maybe 5 sub-adults (rapps) and letting them grow out in the 90g until a pair forms, would this be the way to do it?.Thanks in advance.

a 90g would work for awhile (2 years probably) since they grow slow but for life they will need AT LEAST a 125, a tank that has a width of 24in would be better though

i think a 90 would be ok. ive never seen a male on this webiste over 14 inches and females 9-10 inches. a 125 would be better but i think if all you can do is a 90 id say they should be fine.

Thanks guys, how about getting a pair?would getting 5-6 juvies or sub adults and waiting for a pair to form be the way to go?

90 would work for a while like stated but I say no way for life. Sure the male might not get over 14...mine is at about 11 now...but the aggression that he lays down onto the female between spans would not last in a 90 for too long if they were larger I think. i have mine in a 125 and I think its tight....he chases her from one end to the other splashing water out the tank and running her into the walls and filter intakes.

Prime example of why a divider is your friend with festae, mine have always been divided and try to kill/eat anything I try to put in their tank.

It would be wise to get a few and let them pick their mates. I started off with 3 and the love isn't all that mutual with my pair.
