well my festae has internal parrisite and i have treated her with jungle parrisite clear 3 times allowing 48 hrs inbetween treatments. i have always had good results with jungle products but this time after 3 she still has white clear stringy poo. water changes are plenty and will not eat the parrisite food they make so i dont know what else to do besides dumping in more treatments. i figure if 3 didnt do it then anymore probably will not either.

If it's intestinal flagellates/hexamita, I use metronidazole and heat as a treatment. I get my metro from Jehmco: http://jehmco.com/html/medications.html

The common dosage used for discus is 400mg per 10 gallons of water daily for 5 days with a large water change (50%+) before each treatment. I've treated other cichlids with this same dosage and it seems to work. Discus keepers raise the heat to 90F but I've been told that it's not as important as people suggest, so you could probably put it in the mid-to-high 80s and it'll be just as effective.

also try epson salt with the treatment.......

An Epsom salt bath can help the fish pass the parasites and reducing the numbers and is helpful in diffacult cases. Then re-medacate as before. When doing the bath do it in a bucket and leave the fish for 15-20 mins but watch for signs of distress. I also find metronidazole to be an effective med.

well i had the same problem with my fastaes a while back ago & theotry is that fish can adapt tp higher salt levels, parasites cannot,so try dosing the tank and doing WCevery two days & good luck thias is what i did n i had small lil see threw worm all over my tank my fish, they where eating them & having white poo for a couple of weeks!!

I have used Prazipro, Levamisole, and salt baths to treat my fish for internal parasites, not all together but on different occasions. I've had success with all treatments but more so with the Levamisole and Prazipro for the difficult cases.

I've used jungle labs parasite clear/praziquantel tabs successfully with Festae. It took them several days after to start eating and several days after to pass the dead tapeworm. Then I had a re-infection issue a month later from cysts and had to go thru it all over again. Internals can be a real bugger.

A standard dip soultion is one Tablespoon of Epsome salt per gallon. Desolve the Epsome salt in a glass of warm water and mix into a container filled with tank water, somthing like a 5 gal bucket works well. The fish should be placed in the soultion for 15 to 20 mins. Monitor the fish and remove immediately if any signs of distress are noticed.

How have you treated the fish so far.

Epsom salt treatment .......

That only helps if your fish is eating, or you need to administer the solution via a pipette.

Dipping at 1 Tbsp per gallon of water will act as a purgative, but will have little overall effect on eradicating the parasites.

Prazipro & Levamisole are deworming agents, and will also have little to no effect on intestinal protozoa, they are designed for killing nematodes.
