I have a question, i have seen many pictures of festae and theyre REALLY beautiful with the lava orange color. My question is is that breeding color or are they always like that.

males are always that greener yellow look without the bars and females have the thick black bars but the bars come and go. And aren't always that bright but still bright and gorgeous. But the majority of those pictures are breeding colors.
Here's my female same time 30seconds apart

I need to spark up my fish life

Is she in breeding colors or is that how she always looks (without a male).

From my experiences the females are more like the first picture most of the time and the brighter red and black bars are more what I see during breeding.
But I do see color changes at all times depending on there moods.

Ok I'm gonna get one! I've got a 37 gallon grow out tank. How big do they start showing nice color like Runitis?

No mine is not in breeding colors there is no male. . I grew mine up from fry (.5") but in a long process of tank upgrades. Mine is a year old now at about 5". The fins started coloring up at 2-3" and didn't start to fully color up until 4". Beware they are slow growers! Patience is key

5" a year?! That's fast! My severum grew from 3" to 6" in two and a half years! He's nt stunted by any means, beautiful, healthy, normal eye size in relation to body, and in a 55 gallon with a female I'm trying to breed him with.

Your festae grow out thread is awesome too! I love it how you list the tank size too to help ppl like me know what is an appropriate tank size for what size festae. It's cool also seeing how little see through babies can be such beautiful adults!
