Hi,
Re: Festae
How do you tell male and female?
What size are they when they start breeding?
And do you keep the male with the female once she has laid the eggs? Would it be the same method as convicts breeding?
Hoping someone can help.

The foward half of the dorsal fin is black or blue on female festae. Not sure when the earliest they start breeding is, I heard as small as 4". With breeding festae you'll need to keep a divider handy, the male can be brutal or fatal to the female.

If i got two 2" festae male and female can i keep them in the same tank. Thanks for your help

I purchased 6 festae from Rapps a few months back. They spawned at 3.5". I was able to leave the male and female together and they were both very good with the fry. The female is in charge but at this point, she is bigger than the male. I imagine that once the male gets larger, I will need to separate him with a divider.

I was able to keep other festae in the same tank during the spawn but they were chased quite a bit. I am about to move the pair out to their own tank and try to get another pair from the 4 other fish.

Absolutely love these fish.
