As part of my uaru purchase, I was given a festivum for free. He is also still small about 2''. I am looking for some information on these ''flag cichlids'' as they are called. I looked up google but I want some fish keepers info and advice on these guys. I plan on housing the festivum with 2 uaru, 6 sds, 5 clown loaches, and a fei feng flagtail.
I would like to know how big they get(getting varied results), diet, and any pics from owners would be awesome.
Thanks.

Size is really hard to pinpoint, which is probably why you've gotten various answers. It depends on the species, sex, genetics, water quality, variety and frequency of food...

In my two groups, the females always stayed about half the size of the males. So I'd only get 3" females while I'd have 6 - 7" males. I've never kept them as lone specimens because they like being in groups, so I don't know how they behave as individuals. In groups, mine tended to be pretty nippy and feisty.

You can see some of my Mesonauta when they were younger in this video. They were around 2 - 4" at the time.

The males were later moved to a bigger tank and ended up being 7 - 8" before I had to get rid of them. They were terrorizing my large male severums.

they are beautiful!!! All I know about these guys is they are supposed to be about the same level of aggression as a Severum, although Ryansmith says his are aggressive, so Im sure he knows more than me considering that he has had experience with the fish ;)

I see these guys around from time to time and always want to pick one up!

I' just recently aquired a group of 5 Mesunauta egregius which are suppose to stay a little smaller.I haven't kept Festivum in many years and I'm very happy I decided to keep them again, Like Ryan I have no experiance with keeping a lone specimen so I can't tell you how it will act towards the Uaru.

This is probably because Mesonauta tend to be shoaling fish by nature, and especially as juveniles, cichlids tend to find safety and comfort in numbers.
