im planning on getting a large mouth for my tank and i was wondering what ph to keep the water at, if i bred guppies in it then added the bass would it eat them all in one sitting or pace its self and eat when its hungry, and what would be a good filter to use

Water quality doesn't seem to affect bass that much someone told me you could keep one in a toilet and I cycled my tank with mine (before i found this site I had never heard of cycling) As far as the guppy thing goes he will just gorge himself I tied the same thing all that happened was all the guppies were gone and the bass grew an inch in a week. I would suggest just breeding the guppies in a 10 or 20 gallon tank and then feed him regularly that way.

yeah water quality wont be to big of an issue ive found that natives are extremly hardy my sister has a largemouth and puts in like 20 feeders at a time and he will eat like 18 of them and then start to just suck in the others and spit them out like he is playing with them or something so i would personally just keep them in a breeder and put them in as you need them. good luck post pictures once you get him!

I keep crappie minnows in with my bass( largemouth, smallmouth) and sunny. They eat them as they get hungry. If They run out of minnows and I don't notice for a day or two they will eat a lot of minnows when I put the new minnows in there. My smallmouth once at 11 shiners (4") in a row. For a filter I would strongly suggest over filtering. Since I keep the minnows in my tank it can get really dirty If I don't have all my filters runny perfectly. I would suggest a sump as that is what I've found that works the best for my natives.

I have a LMB that is about 14" and have had her since she was 2" which was 3 yrs ago. Do not concern yourself with water quality/testing. I use canister filters and use 2 of them. Also LMB don't do well with any other fish including other LMB as the get older. I had 3 but went down to 2 then just the big female. They don't play nice. I do a water change once a month and clean the filter and glass every other month. Since mine was raised it eats pellets and ANYTHING else I throw in there. Also a good note to you would be tank decor. Don't have any if the bass is big. They tear it to all hell so I just have gavel at the bottom. Good luck and please make sure your tank is really big for this guy.

Forgot to mention they are jumpers so have a sturdy glass lid and rest your light directly on it to keep it down. Has worked for me that way for 3 years.
