So after 4 months of owning a silver arowana the growth rate has increased after putting him in a 180 gallon tank (alone) still a small guy at 8-9 inches. The only thing that is driving me crazy is his skiddishness (if thats a word) Im constently going room to room doing stuff and have to pass the tank and either way he freaks out by jumping or running into the glass fast. Will he over come this later on down the road?? His fins are finally fixed:grinno: thanks melafix<3 also if i look carefuly at the head of the arowana he has dents along his jaw and on top of his head is this normal? their not holes just small dents that couldnt be caused by running into anything in the tank, almost like he was born with them... so pretty much what dents or holes should a arowana have?:screwy:

Not a single camera is in my house right now all at work post some tomorrow. Its in between my living room and office/computer room and tucked in this pocket so you cant look through the tank on the sides but its in this hall way which is active when i get home. Is it possible if i walk by it slower can help? I dont spend a lot of 1 on 1 time with my arow maybe stare at the tank max for 40 minutes a day. So maybe sit by the tank for awhile let him get used to me?

Aros generally get startled by very quick movements.. so you have given the answer mate.. spend some time.. slow movements.. its prob startled because it can see from the sides as to who is coming in or not.. its like wham i appear before you outta nowhere.. so work on it mate.. cheers..

young aros get skittish (there is your word) around 12" or so. besides quick movements, bright colors, especially red and orange outside of the tank scare them. if he's new to the larger tank he may still be adjusting to the new surroundings and everything that he doesn't recognize will make him jumpy.

the best thing you can do is leave the tank dark as much as possible, wear dark colors, black, blue, green, brown. and move not quite so fast around the tank for a few weeks.

I have a Silver Aro about 4" now. When I'm close to the tank he comes right next to the glass and checks me out. I can do whatever I want with him as long as I move slowly. Moving fast is the one and only thing I've seen that scares the **** out of him:)

Different aro have different personalities. I've had some that are like that and i've had some that don't care what you do and follow me like a puppy. Normally though they learn to calm down a bit.

I had a really bad experience with my Aro last night. I put my hand into the tank to take out few of the fish fillets that ended up in the bottom at feeding time. The Aro got excited really badly. Banged himself against the glass several times, I had to withdraw. He tried to jump out and knocked himself against the lid (fortunately at that time the cover was on and I've already withdrawn). Never seen him that agitated. Usually when I put my hand in he goes to the other corner in the bottom and wait there till I take my hand out. I must have done something wrong this time.

Thanks for all the replys i will be working on my connection with my arow. How big are the nose holes on arowanas? Im pretty sure thats what they are because they look like'em
