i just got a 29 gallon tank and i have my bichir whos only like 6-7 inches long. im just wondering if this tank is a good size for it? also i wanted to get live plants and wanted to know if there is any specific type of plants that i should get or if it even matters? and yeah i used to have it in a 10 gallon tank and it wasnt that active at all but now is all over the place in the new tank but only sence i put one of my goldfish in the tank with it (used to be a feeder but never got eaten all the way heh they seem to be friends now) so yeah i guess what im getting at is how to know if your bichir is healthy and, is it cool hes in there with a goldfish?

first of all what kind of bichir is it? for upper jaw species like sens, dels and palmus the 29g should be fine, but most if not all of the upper jaws will be cramped in a tank that small. um, the goldfish shouldn't bother the bichir and bichir and if he is too big to fit in the bichir's mouth then he should be fine.

Sen will be fine in that size tank.

i beleve its a senegal, i bought it at petsmart

i would have the senegal in a bigger tank, they tend to get really active and like swimming around alot. i have mine in a 60 gallon and am planning to get a bigger tank. As for plants, doesnt really matter.. they need a few good hiding spots

I have 2 in a 29 right now and I plan on keeping them there doing massive water changes every week bulking them up untill they can go in my 125 with my bigger cichlids.

Problem is one eats way more than the other and he looks like a plump sausage and the other looks like a more slender ball park hot dog.

a single sen in a 60? surely not. i have 1 regular sen, 1 plat sen, 1 buettikoferi, 1 del, 1 retro, 1 peacock eel, a hujeta and a rainbow wolf all in a 75 and everyone seems to have plenty of room to swim. my reg sen is the biggest at just under 8". i may move some to the 150 eventually but for now they are fine. i think a 29 is adequate for a single senegal.

i have two sens' in the tank, ones 7" and the other one is 3", keyhole cichlid, and small catfish.. i just like having lots of room for them to swim around. ill be moving to an 80ish gallon in 2 years.
