Well, for starters when my new tank arives im gona have an 120gallon open so i thought i would do some discuss and breed them, for starters what should i know about them.

Can i have more than 1 pair in the tank breeding? what should i put as substrate? what should be in there for them to breed on and decor for the tank? what should the temp be? what should the ph be? etc..

Also what would be some nice types of discuss to breed?

KK, leme change this post. I did some searching on the discuss and decided i'm gona have them in my 120gallon. They dont seem to hard to keep considering i do 2 w/c a week about 20%.
Anywho i was wondering if you can only have a pair of discuss for them to breed? or is it ok to have like 5 discuss?

I plan on breeding them so i dont know if its smarter to stay with a pair or go for some more.

well to get a breeding pair, (unless you buy a breeding pair) you will need to get half a dozen or so young discus and wait for them to pair up......

Is this a show tank or a stock/breeding tank?

If looks aren't important, I would keep it bare bottom. Discus cones and flower pots are the best tank furniture. You can put a lot of discus in a 120 gallon tank. However, if you want success breeding them, I would keep the pair alone in a 20 - 30 gallon tank. It's much easier to rear the fry when the pair is alone. That being said, discus are happiest in groups. You could put a ton of fish in that tank.

Invest in good filtration.
Keep your heat up and your pH down.
Feed a quality staple and supplement frozen a couple times a week.
Use a holding tank to condition change water to proper pH and temp, then do water changes every couple of days. I know that a lot of people will tell you this isn't necessary but it's actually easier on the hobbyist to always have a supply of clean conditioned change water.

Once you have an established pair, a 50% water change with water that is a few degrees cooler than the tank water will induce a spawn. A variety in the diet helps also.

I like the one thats white with red stripes or w/e. And the one thats your avatar :)

Like MilkMan I am contemplating a discus tank. I was actually hoping to put some discus and angels in with a bunch of tetras. Does this work? Would a FX5 produce to much durrent/disruption in a tank around 80 gallons?

The tetras will probably get eaten by the angels. I would love a discuss tank, but that means i would have to get rid of my dats and i cant do that.
