i really want a red devil ,and have ever since i saw one but i just don't know what they can get along with in a tank . i see pics of them with all different kind of other fish but not sure exactly what to think . could some of you more experienced guy's help me with this

also whats the difference between a midas and a red devil , the people at the local ps here say they are the same but i figured that was because they have a midas and not a red devil which is what i ask for

what is the tank size?
i'm sorry i have both a 90 and a 55 i could use

the 90 would be better.

although they are really two distinctly different species, for the most part Midases and Red Devils are the same fish (Red Devils you buy at most shops are hybrids of the two).

most people will suggest you don't keep anything with a RD in a 90. A few cons should work, as long as you give them plenty of hiding spaces. you could try larger cichlids, maybe a JD or GT. just get them all as babies and let them grow up together...

...just be prepared for the RD to one day live up to his name, and kill his tankmate. this may or may not happen, (I have a very docile RD, she lives with several other fish).

my cons are pretty entertaining. they sneak up behind my RD and bite her on the ass. they'll let her chase them around for a few laps, before escaping under a rock.

^^^ yeeppp
ive had a midas/red devil that always killed or eaten anything that i put in the tank with it before and ive had one that was friendly and neutral.. it all depends..

I have several Rd / midas cichlids and they live with avaritty of fish from trimacs ,JD, salvinis, jags, tilapia. but best bet is buy six Rd let them pair of naturaly and with in a year you should have a mated pair of red devils. you should be able to sale them back to the lfs. way cooler than a single reddevil and some cons. this way you get to see the devil unleshed!
