Ok, I'm such a newb with cichlids of any sort, so please bear with me.

I have 2 small (around 3 inches) flowerhorns, both the same color, one slightly bigger.

They're both starting to get koks, and neither of them have a dot on their dorsal, does this mean that they are both males? Or can females of some varieties be missing their dot? Or are they still too small to have a dot?

The one I'm 99% sure is a male, is a nasty lil finger-chasing SOB, even at 3-1/4 inches!

If they are both males, does this mean I need completely seperate housing? Or just a strong, solid divider?

And where do you suppose that I should look for this bare minimum?

I figured instead of going to any standard search engine, and chancing getting the wrong information and look like an even bigger idiot than I already do, I would just simply ask the question here, where intelligent people can help me out.

If you don't want to help me by answering my question, which IS research, then please don't post.

Thank you very much, Davey!! I didn't want to assume they were both boys, and they weren't, or that I had one of each and they were the same gender!! >.<

ive had males with the spot. the only 100 % way to know for sure is to see eggs or to vent

my opinion on this is to devide the two...sooner or later the bigger one will pick on the other.the only way to find out the gender on the two is if one lays egg.just my opnion...

Sexing Flowerhorns isnt just a case of Venting. It can be done by simply looking at the fish. post a pic of fish the fish for better I.D.

This is not always the case though. With some fish, this is true, but with most fish, a picture is not going to be able t tell you for sure because the standard male/female marks are not always reliable. The only true ay of telling is to vent the fish or for it to lay eggs, as said, but I guess you could get some other opinions about it if pics were posted....
