So I just received some FH food (grand sumo and chingmix) and upon opening the packages realized that the pellets are a bit small for my 12" flowerhorn. Is there some way to mash the pellets together into bigger pellets or something? I thought maybe if I took some water and got the pellets a little wet and formed them into larger balls that maybe it would work out alright but I don't want to destroy the nutritional value or anything like that. Does anyone have any ideas?

Just feed it the way it is, it is fine. I've known some FH hobbyist that add a little water to it and smash it all up. Then roll it into larger balls, but this is messy feeding as it is very soft and once it lands inside the fish mouth it breaks apart very fast. Almost like dissolving with the water. Try it if it suits your liking. For my liking, I would just feed them like the way it is.

haha if they eat both then why you need to do that? Still go in the stomach.

U do that to try to mix the good stuff they dont eat. Like Veggies or more protein. They have the ability to sort them and spit them out too. But if you like to enjoy taking care of your fish, then it could be fun making them special foods.

So, does all the chingmix and grand sumo come in this smaller form or not? How do you classify the pellet size..with the number on it (i.e. chingmix sp100 or sp80)? Didn't mean to jump in on your thread, just have been wondering this for a while.

SP100 has a stronger formula than the SP80. From some being said, SP100 should not be fed to a young FH because it is too strong for them. Best to start with SP80 then upgrade to SP100. And SP100 pellet size are a little larger than SP80.

A member of my local reef club suggested I used gelatin to bind the pellets and put them in like a mold, I was going to use an empty frozen cube mysis container. Are there any issues with using gelatin to do this?

Yes, it will make one of hell of a mess when fed to your fish.
