In a box of Pop Tarts!
OK here is my sitch. I have 3 FH's 1 male 7 inch, 1 female 6 1/2 inch and another male about 5 in a 220. The male/female pair would not leave the 5 inch male alone. On top of that the 7 inch male would also go after the female sooo I have separated all of the fish into 3 different tanks. I recently bought 2 dats that came with a free Chocolate cichlid and I put him in with the small male in a 220. The small FH imediately began going after the chocolate cichlid.
As if they were supposed to be best buddies right? I tried re-arranging the tank and all was ok for a little while but now the fh is really starting to get nasty. So my question is this. I have a 10 gallon that I could put the FH into. And before anyone blows a gasket over this it would only be for a short time. I am waiting to trade this FH out. So he would be in the 10 gallon tank for a month at the most. There are no other fish in the 10 currently.

Any thoughts???:grinno:

well it's not idea but if it's only temporary then it'll work. just make sure you do lots of water changes to keep the water clear because a fish that size in such a small tank will foul the water very quickly. i'd do 50% water changes 2-3 times per week to make sure he stays healthy and be sure to get him out of there as soon as you can. :)

btw, moving this to hybrids section.

that would be fine IMO but not for a month. A week would be pushing it. Why not trade him in tomorrow..?

I am waiting for a fellow MFKer to finish pairing some festae and then we were going to trade. He is close but not quite there.

once they pair up, u cant put anything else in the tank. I would leave the paired couple together and remove everything else. Unless u want it to be killed. as for the extra male, i would put in a with bunch of other fish; not just 1. It will spread out the aggression. If you have anything bigger then him; make that fish king of the tank. They you'll be fine.

Any fh who's king of the tank, you'll aways have problem; unless that fh is 9-10 big already. As they get older, they pretty much mild, just like big gaint pleco and arows :)
