Hey guys, so I have a flowerhorn hybrid, who some people said they see a bit of thai silk in, but im not sure what the rest is; ill post some pics to see if you guys can help ID.

Anyways, recently he has stopped eating the hikari bio-gold + pellets that Ive been feeding him for the past several months and which he seemed to love but now he just spits them out. Ive tried frozen food but he has been ignoring that as well lately. Then I thought of doing several water changes but that hasnt helped either. Any advice if I should try a new pellet like NLS or do you think he might just be stressed? Any feedback is apperciated!

Belly sure looks sunken in. I'm going to throw out there that he might have an internal parasite issue but need some more information on his history.

It has internal parasites. Btw dude, we have a hybrid forum thats DEDICATED to Flowerhorns. Try checking there, and try not to post your threads in the CA/SA cichlid forum. Lots of "purists" don't like seeing these threads. :P

Eh, as far as illness is concerned it doesn't really matter if it's a hybrid or not. The mods will move it when they find it.

Sorry Im fairly new to MFK and was just asking why he stopped eating, not really that concerned about ID'ing him.

If he has internal parasites, is there anything I can do to help him? Ill start doing my research too but any feedback would be appreciated

Yes, there is plenty you can do to help. Something a member named RD "pioneered" recently was the use of Epsom salt dissolved in water and soaked in food to treat internal parasites. Since your fish is not eating, it gets a bit more complicated. Some other common medications are metronidazole, levamisole, and praziquantel. Look up some treatments and come back with any questions you have.

Thanks for the info, I acually found his thread and gonna try it out; but like you said, since he is not eating Im not sure what to do. Thanks anyways and mods feel free to move this thread to the fh hybrid section if you like.

You could dissolve Epsom salt in bottled water and "squirt" it down his throat. I've never done that before myself. I would private message RD and see what he suggests. Meds are another option that I have seen work many times.

I always use flubendazole for treatment of intestinal parasites. It's a cheap, safe and usually effective treatment. Praziquantel would be my 2nd line of attack.

Flubendazole is easily available here in the UK, although I know this is not the case in some countries. No idea if it is available to you.

Fish Diseases and Health Issues is the appropriate forum
