My husband has this obsession with Flowerhorns, so he decided to do an experiment to find out the difference in FH colors based on background and substrate colors.

Here is a pic if a red dragon when we first got him (he was in a bare bottom tank...he is the one at the top)

This pic was in a 55g tank with a black background and black sand.

Same tank, but the background was changed to a lighter scene.

After the move to a different 55g with light sand and a "planted background".

Today...after being in the new tank with lighter sand and background for over a month.

Please post your comments/thoughts/opinions...I'd like to hear them. Also, how would you rate him...he was an experiment for my husband and he's gotta go soon!

He looks good. It's hard to be scientific because when you first got him he had others with him, and when you first get a fish it takes time to color up. But that being said I think he looks best now in the bright setup you have. Shows off more of him. All in all this is very good info for newer people to see the difference and I thank you personally for taking on this challenge and documenting it.

Notice the bars in the black/dark setup.
