Well my flowerhorn was sick with hex last week and he dident eat for 4 days, I raised the temp and put Epsom salt in the tank. He started eating again for 3 days and was feeling better, I did A water change last night maybe around 20-30 % and he was doing fine. Then this morning I woke up and his head was shrunk on the sides and colors were darker. I tested water and seemed to be ok, The ph is 6, He seems to be doing alittle bit better but is not active or hungry. Any advice or input on what the problem could be would be appreciated, I know they can react to water changes but this was the first time this has happened.

Yeah I was gonna buy the stuff to change it to 7 but they said if he was doin fine how it's been that it might make it worse. What's the best ph to keep it at I read they can be 6-8.

I just put A little ph raiser in it so hopefully that helps, It was pretty low around 6.0 - 6.2

It was driving me crazy when I went through what you did. The tank has been set-up for 3 years and it shocked me that recently every time I did a water change, some of the fish would die, not just one type. I do check my water's parameter's frequently but never thought to check the PH parameter because I have never checked it since when I first started at this hobby 35 years ago. I finally checked the PH and it was low at
6 so that's why only certain species are PH sensitive and were dying. Was going to buy some chemicals to bring the PH up but you would have to use it with all water changes. The best thing to do is use crushed coral. You can put some in you filter, add to you substrate or just use it all for a substrate. PH will rise but only to a certain point which is why you can add a little or more in a tank and still have the PH be about the same. I use it now for all of my tanks.

Thanks for the advice everybody, I'm sad to say he passed away tonight. I'm pretty sad about it, Here's some pics I took last night.rip1.jpgrip2.jpg

In the future, if he has hex, please get some medication. Epsom salt in the tank is not going to rid of hex. At least have some metronidazole on hand. When raising FH, it's a good idea to have meds on hand because they are so prone to disease.
