I got a FH thus past Tuesday evening. The potential problem is that when I bought him he was fairly colorful and not shy. For the past two days he is quite dark, no bars though, and swims around normal until any slight movement is made, the he hides. When he hides he looks like he is breathing hard, but comes out and seems fine. He has been eating well and the water parameters are fine. Am I just not giving him enough time to adjust or could there be a problem? Black Kuhli loach is only tankmate, but is hidden all the time.

not water? color changes usually hit FH when they change environments, are under alot of stress, or mood...what were the water parameters at the place you got him? maybe a huge difference in PH or something like that. i recenly had a 11in. chili red red dragon lose almost ALL his color due to a filter going out for a very long time. took him 3 days to get it back. how big is he? got pics?

Sorry no pics. He's roughly 3 inches going from a 20g with lots of other fh's, not selling real well, to a 75g basically by himself. Also, I don't have the background up yet so he can pretty much see the whole apartment. Don't know if that matters or not. First fish I've kept since giving the Discus away, so I'm a little nervous.

fh are pretty hardy fish...and most of the ones i've had are not shy at all, even when introduced as the new fish. you got him tonz of room too...does he look at all sickly? could be he is still adjusting, at least he is still eating.

Looks good other than the darkness. I swear as I type he is trying to beg for food. I guess maybe I'm just worrying too much, but a close eye will be kept.
