So im fairly new to the hobby. Ive had a flowerhorn from about 2 months now and he has these vertical stripes on him. Now ive heard of stripes on flowerhorns coming from stress, but he has them all the time. Water param. is all good. The stripes darken up when he hits the glass tryin to get at me. What i am askin is.. do flowerhorns grow out of the stripes???
crappy pics =

Looks like the FH is fading, which might explain the stress bars. As long as it acts/eats fine, I wouldn't worry.

Nah dont know anything about em. I wasnt really expecting too much out of this guy anyway. I bought him from a lfs for not much. Those marks on his head is from him tryin to move that decor around. Its like he just snaps and goes on an anger bindge. Hes mean as a snake thats what i like about em.

While we're on the subject, can fading be prevented or is it mostly genetic? I know about the background and substrate factor. Im sure diets got something to do with it also right?

fading is genetic, and thus cannot be stopped from occurring. food and decor will play no part in the fading process.
