Hey guys,

Thinking about growing a baby flowerhorn out in a 40 gallon breeder (single specimen tank). How long will it be able to live in the 40 gal before it needs an upgrade?

I’d say you have until 5-6 inches, then up to a 75 gallon.

If it's a 3-4" Baby and the tank dimensions are 36*18*18 then you'll be fine for approximately 2 yrs. +/- 6 months based on the type and genetics of the fish. You could have more time with a thai silk then with a red dragon as thai silks typically stay smaller and grow slower than the red dragons.
