I'm curious how many people have fiber cement siding on your homes.

We built our house a little less than ten years ago and sided it with fiber cement siding. Now we're having to tear it off and replace the rotten sheathing underneath. The scary part is that it looked great - we wouldn't have discovered the problem if we hadn't had to tear off some of the siding to fix a leaky gable-end vent.

We replaced it with cedar shingles and 30 pound felt. If you've never bought #1 cedar shingles, $600 worth will fit in the back of a Subaru... :irked:

My house was built 2 1/2 years ago and the builder used it. We haven't had a problem with it so far and I'm hoping we don't.

As long as they used flashings behind the joints you probably won't, seeing as how you are a lot drier. We get driving wind and rain for about six months out of the year and the stuff just can't keep the water out. Be sure to shovel all the drifts away from the house when it snows - snow sitting against it for extended time is another common cause of failure.

It is probably a good product for dry climates, but it doesn't hold up to wet weather very well at all, it seems.
