Fiberglass tank plumbing

What is bothering you regarding drilling? I drilled mine, it's very very easy.

What overflow method are you going to use if you don't drill?

I was thinking a pump inside the tank and another inside the sump

Hard no. If either of the pumps malfunctioned you would either flood the sump or the tank. Much more reliable to rely on gravity for draining the main tank into the sump. Or if your fiberglass tank is sitting low you can rig the sump overhead, your pump(s) would feed the sump and gravity would drain the filtered water back into the tank.

Yes, as mentioned a two pump scenario will end in disaster should one fail. It's a non starter.

Honestly drilling is your best option, it's easy and you won't regret it. Yes, it can be a little unnerving at first, when I drilled mine it was my first time ever drilling any tank!

I visualised what I wanted in my head, measured everything up, measured again, and then again. Then just before drilling.....I measured again!

You've heard of "measure twice, cut once". Well I take it to the next level, lol.

The main thing to think of in my eye was to make sure the overflow was in such a position that the water level in the tank was covering the whole viewing window.

That's why I was so meticulous with my measuring.

The crude diagram below shows my set up. My pump is in the HDPE filtration barrel (not pictured). Overflow is 2" diameter, return is 1" diameter. The return line goes from my pump over the back of the tank through a hole in my canopy. You might have to zoom in to read it!

Honestly, it's easy.

I could have left mine on the floor no problem, but I wanted the viewing panel raised for a better view. Plus not only that, if I hadn't have built a stand for it I wouldn't have been able to fit my preferred method of filtration at the side, a huge HDPE drum.

The stand is 14" high and the tank is 32" high. That combined 46" total height is just about perfect for me. Picture below for reference.
