I've recently purchased a fiddler crab for my 29 brackish tank, and just learned that you need to provide some land that sticks out the top of the water for the crab, is this true?

He is currently above the water hanging on the side of the tank anyway, or will I need a proper landing pad?

whelp, wether he needs dry space or not he's getting it. I look over and he sits upon my lid...

I've cleared a space at the top.

i had 6 fiddlers before, the first 3 died in 2 days cause they didn't have enough air. The next three survived for a couple of moths cause i gave them a plant (which acted like a ladder) to give them air. They died because of overfeeding. So yes, u have to give them air (no matter if it's sand or a plant ladder.

Yeah, I used to keep a plant tall enough for mine to get to the surface and also had a floating plant that they could get on.

they don't need a lot of dry space but something, even an orniment sticking up above water level. You do need a secure top that has no openings. They are escape artists. I've had a few that I found dried up after they got out.

Looking over my should to the tank to my right and seeing a fiddler perched atop the tank looking at me at about eye level :WHOA: was absolutely ridiculous lol.

There is a bunch of rocks piled up now he sits on top of, and while although it was a priceless "umm" moment, its one I hopefully won't have soon.

my tank has mangrove roots malaysion driftwood plus mangrove seedlings to provide a place to get out of the water but they are large because my tank is halfway filled to two thirds of the way filled it is a 85 gallon tank the only question i have is will a costarican land crab get along with my fiddlers?

as others said, i had mine in a 55gallon. They just climbed to the top on a plant and sat on floating plants.
