Need advice.

I have a Blue acara pair in my 110. They spawned late last night and I've woken up to them this morning fighting.

The female is trying to guard the eggs, the male comes over and trys to bully her away from the eggs so he can guard them. They both look a little worse for wear torn fins and such. I've seen them lip locked 3 times now pushing each other around the tank.

Do I remove the eggs, remove one of the parents?

I've never had a successful spawn from this pair and starting to see the problem. The minute they aren't sitting on the eggs (to busy fighting) the other tank inhabitants swoop in for a snack.

I had that issue years ago with a pair. I suggest removing the male if possible or purchase a sheet of plastic lighting diffuser aka egg crate cut to fit aquarium and divide off male from the female. My female EBA was very aggressive after the pair spawned and nearly killed the male.

At the moment, I think if I left them as is the female might end up dead.

I'll set up my spare tank and move him as soon as I can, she does a better job looking after the eggs judging what I've seen this morning. I'll have to order some egg crate online it isn't available at my local hardware store.

Did your pair ever work out?
This is the second female I've had with this male, he killed the last one after they spawned.

This has become my main display tank, I'm looking at changing the stock around anyway so if the pair isn't going to be long term viable I'd rather do something about that now, I don't want to have egg crate in the tank every fortnight. ?

Yes after I nursed the male back to health I reintroduced both of them together in a different aquarium but they never spawned again. The female is alive today she's around 5 years old.

Thank you.
I'll separate them for now and see how they go after the female has *fingers crossed* raised the fry.

The male avoided all my attempts at capture. By the time my partner got home and could help me remove the hood so I could pull some deco (in order to get the male out) the pair were guarding the eggs together.

It is the next day neither of them look in worse shape and there are still maybe 100 or so healthing looking eggs on the rock.

I'll be keeping an eye on them today the back up tank is set up and ready to pull the male at any sign of trouble today.

Poor fish, I really gave him a good fright with my net ?
