I'm trying to breed my flowerhorns. I understand pair them is very hard to do. My male has had one female before but has never bred. They got along but never bred so I'm trying a new female with him. She is a 5" zz rd an he is a 7" zz fader. I let them together after having them together with a divider. They circle and the female points her head down going nuts body waggin while the male body wags but trys to bite her tail ever few rotations around.

Video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they fighting.. Not bonding

Well tried to get vid but now the male just chases her away until she crams into a space he can get. Do you think it's at all worth trying to pair her (5") with a 5" red terror male.

Kinda sounds like courting. I have the reverse pair of what you have (male rd and fader female) and they wanted to kill each other when I first put them together. The male was super aggressive tail slapping the hell out of her and actually biting scales off. I put a divider between them and the next day I took it out more fighting but moments of calmness. Put back the divider and by the third day I removed it and they were just fine. The real test was the slumber party but in the morning all was well. She's actually laying eggs for him as I type this. Have you put a divider between them?

I could probably use some pointers myself cuz as you can see by the pic of the eggs they aren't fertilized. Fourth unsuccessful spawn. My male doesn't seem to grasp the concept of "gettin it in"
