The story:
I found someone that was selling a Xanthic Jag. When I first got it, it was in a bad way, (underfed, fins ripped and tatty, also she wouldn't hold them up. Her eyes were all white and cloudy. She has black marks all over her body, some of her scales were missing and it looked like she had a mucus that was coming off of her body, she also wasn't eating,) but I got it back up to health and got it sexed on here as a 'she'

After finding out that it was a 'she', and with her being fairly unusual I want to try and breed her to see what her babies come out like and also to keep some and grow them on and have them for myself. So I found another Jag which I believe to be male, (also sexed on here as a male,)

When I fisrt put the male in with her I know it's her tank, and with him being another big fish she showed what i think was aggression, flaring her gills, wiggling her body next to his and also biting and chasing him. There were ripped fins and scales missing from him and for the first couple of days she had him hid in the top corner of the tank by the power head

After a couple of days she gave in and stopped beating him up. now he has one end of the tank and she has the other. if she wants to go on his side of the tank he just moves out the way but if he wants to go on her side of the tank it's 50/50 whether she'll ignore him and just let him come over or whether she'll swim at him, (no flared gills,) not bite..but push him with an open mouth. When I turn the lights out at night time everytime she does the flaring of the gills and will hound the male round the tank (he will do the same back 4 a bit then tryes to seim away with her on his tail, he in the sub of the 2fish). I'm not sure whether this is aggression as it's not like when I first put him in. there is the occasional nip from her but nothing that causes damage. Also since I got her back up to health she'll rub her belly on the boulder that I've got in the tank, swimming forward with her tail but swimming back with her side fins, (if that makes sense.)

So my question to you fish guys is..Does it look like these are going to breed or is she annoyed that she's got to share her tank with another Jag?

I don't know why everyone says female. Her patterning and head structure shout out "MALE" That would be your problem....

In my extensive Jag breeding experience, if they are going to breed, they pair up immediately. They don't "hang out"

Try a female.

just judging by the pattern I have always thought male on your jag. But I don't know with it being xanthic and all. And I don't know how to vent fish either. Damn I'm worthless sometimes:( I just figured you knew it was a female for sure so I never said anything;)

to me the vent shots tell me female. the problem might be that the male is smaller, and cannot make her submissive. however some instances it is very hard to tell a female until she lays eggs. just keep feeding her good, and hopefully she will start getting fat with eggs. now if she does drop eggs, by herself, with a mate (or without accepting the "male"). she might kill everything in you tank, considering she is so big. so keep good eyes on those guys.

I'm sorry fishfreak, but I have to disagree on the comment about the vent shots. To me, that is clearly a male vent. A female vent would look more like this... U That is the vent of a male, as it looks more like this... V

That said, I agree with the others. You have two males. Let us know how THAT spawn progresses! J/K

SO..........................

would i have more luck with a pairing-up with my X and this1?
now this fish is a she right?

That one definitely looks female. Try switching the two and see if she pairs with your X. Good luck.
