They've been doing this for the past 2 nights. At first I thought they were fighting, but now I'm not so sure. There are no wounds, and the green keeps tail slapping the red. Could it be pre-spawn courting?

If they hang out together and act like a pair. Usually jaw locking is a ritual of bonding before a spawn. All Cichlids I've ever bred locked jaws before they spawned. But if they don't get along at all it could be just fighting.
They get along great. They've been together in this tank for a least 6 months, and this behavior just started a few days ago. It would be neat to see fry from these two, although the other fish would probably have their way with the eggs.

LUCKY!! i love watching sevs spawn. my pair were beautiful (terqouise) yours will be a very vibrant mix. wish i had them!
No eggs yet. I just had my big chocolate die in that tank, so it might have put a stop to their courting. Hopefully they will start back up again.
