Hmmm?
Anyone have any success with keeping them together in a low end brackish environment?
People have had success keeping silver datnoids (AT) in freshwater, but they are brackish fish and I assume would do well in low end brackish water.

As long as they will both do fine in these water conditions, would a figure 8 pick on the datnoids?

EDIT: Tank would be a 55

you might just see nipping at first, but when the figure 8 gets big they will eat anything they can.

Or try to eat anything they can't.

^ agreed

also, most available figure eights are under an inch and most silver datnoids for sale are about 2-3 inches so there's a chance the silver might just eat the puffer as a snack

I have silver dats, around 1" to 1.5", theres no way they could eat a puffer for several years
My question is mainly if I add a couple figure 8s, if they would kill my dats.
So far it looks like thats a yes.

The figure 8s at my LFS are around 1.5"

It's tough to make that call because puffers have a variety of individual personalities. Figure 8's in general are less aggressive... but i would think dats might try and snack on the puffer?

Dats are pretty tiny.. They can hardly fit frozen brine shrimp in their mouthes, so it would take years to get them big enough to eat the puffers. I have a 75G and 135G if the dats get too big. I may just not risk it, I don't want the puffers killing the dats.

My F8s eat mollies & BBGs but don't bother the fins of my dragon goby.
