hello. im currently setting up a brackish aquarium (currently at 1.008 sg). the tank i have at the moment is only a 100L tank, it has been cycling for about 6 weeks and is well over filtrated. using a fluval 4 plus, rated for tanks up to 200L.

as it stands its drained so there is 8" of water in the tank, as i have some archerfish and monos coming on monday. will i be able to put a figure 8 in with these fish? ive read that these fish are generally less agressive than other puffers, but like most, will become more aggressive as they grow.

i will be getting a 400L tank 5ft x 1.5ft x 2ft in a few months, when i move to my new house. i hope to have the same sort of setup. sand substrate, bogwood, good looking fake plants ect.

so is it possibe? or is it even possible to do when i have my new more spacious tank?

i wouldnt trust the puffer not to rip the fins off your other fish. they look innocent and blimpy but theyre evil. evil i tell you.

The puffer you get is more than likely being kept in FW. SG of 1.005 is best for this species.

"evil i tells ya!!!"
ha ha :)

i thought figure8's where able to handle higher salinity than .005.

fair enough. will think about using the old 3ft tank for a puffer only setup, when i gets my new tank.

thanks all

It's not what they can "handle", it's what they do best in. A decade-long experiment was done on them & they can live 18+ years in this SG.

I know that monos eventually do best in full marine conditions as adults, but figure eight puffers cannot be acclimated to full marine conditions.
