I was up at my LFS yesterday and was asking him about these puffers. I currently have a Fahaka and i am interested in getting 2 of each of the others (so 4 more puffers). I know not to put anything in with the Fahaka (though he has a tag-along guppy that came with him) so they will be in different tanks. I was wondering what fellow Puffer owners think of tanking these 4 together as that is how they are tanked up at the LFS. Also....I was told that since they only get to be about 4" full grown that they could all be tanked together in a 25g-30g. Any advice? Also....is the staple diet and tank set up the same with all puffers? (i.e. Fahaka's, Green Spot, and Figure 8's)

Any advice/direction would be greatly appreciated!!

30g minimum I would say. a 40g breeder tank would be better. The F8's & GSP's will need brackish water to thrive, unlike the Fahaka. Overfiltration is best...

they would be ok for a few months depending on size in a 25-30 gallon but an upgrade would be necessary as they got bigger. i have two of each of those types of puffers in a 29 gallon fully marine tank with a scooter blenny and chocolate chip starfish, getting my 75 gallon set up in two weeks to move them into. the GSP will probably get more aggressive as they get older and may chase/fin nip the others. my bigger of the two GSP chase around the others when he is hungry, but when everyone is fat and happy they are one big happy puffer family swimming around together. one GSP and one F8 always after eating go up and down the side of the glass together for about a half hour then go chase some ghost shrimp. definitely over filtration is key for them. i have a penguin marineland filter that does up to 55 gallons as well as an aqua clear 70(does up to 70 gallons) on my 29 gallon, both filters set to a low flow because of my sand bedding, it gets circulated around a little if the flow is on high. and i have a skimmer for up to 100 gallons.

I'm pretty new- so I'm no expert. I just wanted to add that I love my puffers!! (and I wanted to get my fifth post in, so I can add pics):) It's funny- they say the Figure 8 is the more docile of the two- but my Figure 8 is more aggressive than my Green Spotted. And smaller- but he's the boss. They are babies, and will be moving into a 30 gallon tank soon. I have the Figure 8 in brackish water (instead of fresh) with the Green Spotted. They had a Columbian Catfish with them (they thrive in brackish water), but I had to take him out- they started nipping him. If they start nipping each other, I'll separate them, too. So far, they seem to like each other's company.

Eventually the GSP will prefer a much higher SG.
