He also has a capapretum for sale which to me looks so much different from the one labeled as a filamentosum. Larger spots and less lengthy whiskers

I agree with Dazza and you / your vendor. First piraiba. Last false piraiba.

Thanks viktor! I’m a big fan of you catfish collection :) i only plan on keeping the piraiba up until it grows to 2’ then by that time i’ll be selling him to a friend that has a larger tank. I plan to keep him in a 6x4x2 tank.
How long would it take for him to reach 2’?
How’s the behavior on piraibas compared to capapretums and douradas? Are they skittish as well?
Thanks!

Thank you. IDK how long it will take it to get to 2'. It seems to vary wildly for different keepers but it should happen within 1.5-2 years at most, it seems.

Piraba are markedly calmer than their named cousins. But once it gets on some size and the barbels are touching multiple tank panels at the same time, it will get quite skittish too. Or such is my experience.

I recently posted a thread about whether this brachyplatystoma is a fila or a capa. Members confirmed that this indeed was a filamentosum. My question is which variant of filamentosum is this? Is this a peru or a suriname? Any info would be highly appreciated. Thanks!
