What type of filet do you feed your fish? Anything cheep of just the standard talapia? I am getting semi low on talapia and I found some cheep flounder fillets. Is that ok. Or does it matter. Or should I just stick with the talapia?

BUMP, I am curious on this topic as well.

Thanks I have just been finding that at krogers locally I can get 3lb.+ bags of fillets for 10 bucks and it's like 14 fillets. So I picked up four bags last week and about 8 lbs. of shrimp. this should keep me in food for me big tank for at least 6 weeks hopefully 8-10 weeks.

it doesnt matter-fish is fish.it just varies with fat/protien content etc.worse case scenerio-fish wont eat it and you can

i buy tillapia fillet from like stop and shop wen its on sale i buy a bunch cut it up then frreze it......i also buy market shrimp

I use whatever one is on sale, tilapia, catfish, salmon, tuna, doesn't matter. Just be careful with tuna and salmon, very oily.

If anything, the flounder would probably be better for your fish.

Flounder being a saltwater fish will have higher amounts of omega three etc. than tilapia.

Just make sure your fish get a bit of calcium in their diet too though. A diet of peeled prawns/shrimp and strips of boneless fish fillet might not meet their requirements completely.

^^^ i disagree i would use flounder if its a saltwater fish...i would stick with fresh to fresh .....IMO

Fair enough. But out of curiousity, why? Just on principle?

Quite a few public aquaria in Australia feed saltwater fish to their freshwater fishes, simply for convenience's sake.

I have noticed that it's much easier to cause obesity in freshwater fish by feeding very oily marine fish to them too regularly, but I wasn't aware of any other ill effects?

I've also noted that a LOT of fish keepers on this forum feed saltwater market shrimp to their freshwater pets with no real ill effect. Unless what you guys call market shrimp is different to the prawns we sell in Australia...

I'm not here for an argument, but I'd sure like to find out if I, and many other aquarists are doing something wrong.

took some time but finally some good replies thanks guys. I thin i'm just going to stick with talapia for now. then i'm going to look for a good seafood place to see if I can get fish and shrimp for bulk prices and save a little.
