A lot of people like the way the eheim 2262 is without the filter baskets. I'm curious if you could take the baskets out and put a lattice on top and bottom and just fill it up. I don't need to do maintenance right now where I could look at the way the plumbing is inside. I just figured it was easier to ask. Lol. Thanks.

Well would it work very well if I got some media bags with big holes so they don't plug quickly and fill with prefilter and replace the sponges with that? I'd like to make the service intervals a little longer. Thanks.

I think it sounds like it'd work ok. Just curious if anyone had done it. I guess technically you could put biomax or something in the top trays instead of prefilter. I just thought it was an easier idea than modifying the canister.

I just took out 2 of the baskets and placed form on the bottom basket, then I put bio-rings in media bags and then form on top of that. That double what my FX5 can hold in media.

You are suppose to put the mechanical filter media ontop, good luck with the nitrate factory if you don't wash your bio-rings often.

I'd prefer not to modify the filter. I'd just like to know if replacing the sponges with prefilter would still keep my water clean but need less frequent cleanings itself. Thanks.
