I just noticed a film on the water surface. Checked and my nitrates are ~40ppm and have 0 ppm of amonia. The only difference is I added a plastic vine to the tank. Looks good but maybe its the problem. Was going to do a water change and see if it thins it out.

u should have your powerheads pointed at the surface of the water

earthworms are quite messy but if its not most visible right after feeding it could possibly just be from bio-load

either way a surface skimmer should help or some more surface agitation like mentioned

If you just added the plastic vine it may have been sprayed with something to make it shiny, like furniture polish, etc.

Take paper towels, you will need alot, and drop them on the surface. At the excact moment it becomes wet, remove it. Repeat until film is gone. wont remove all, but a few water changes and watching the feeding will help in the future.

In case it is the vine, remove and rinse/wash. I would caution against washing with soap unless you ABSOLUTLY rinse it ALL off.

Thamks for the replies. Switched the direction of my powerhead and the surface is starting to look better. The vine itself was one for use with reptiles so I'm hoping it wasn't sprayed with anything. If the surface doesn't continue to clear, I will clean the vine.
