Hello MFK, I had a question about filtration and Aeration for the 55 gallon JD breeder I am setting up. I have a TopFin75 HOB filter. Does that create aeration running in the tank? If not, then I have a Biochemical Sponge Filter, which bursts bubbles out like crazy. Thanks!

One of the advantages of HOB filters over canister filters is much better aeration. To get a comparable amount of aeration in a canister filter you need to use a spray bar.

Wouldn't hurt as long as it's maintained properly.

i personaly would maybe run two HOBs

Lots of experienced keepers insist on keeping at least two filters running on every tank. This way, if one were to fail unexpectedly, the other would sustain the tank until the keeper can make repairs.

So maybe both could be good in your situation?

They make air pumps that can be powered through the outlet and when that power is interrupted it is powered through batteries. I have two of the following and they work well in my experience.
