Hey guys, currently im running a penguin 350 70gal filter running with 2 power heads on each side of the tank, Im just wondering if some one can tell me why when my fish poop the waste sits on the sand and doesent go any were near the filter... not sure what the issue is, if i need another filter or what, if i need another filter i was going to add a canister to it.. any thoughts or suggestions, also my nitrates are a little high that means im over feeding a bit right?

Also how do you get rid of nitrates just do wc?

Tank is 75GAL

My guess is nobody posted back because this could be any number of problems.
Based on very little info a number of questions crop up.
With 4 powerheads (or two, syntax) and a 350 you probably have a tank flow pattern issue.
The intake for the 350 might be to high off the bottom.
The tank decorations might be interfering with the ability of the powerheads to do the job.
The powerheads could need to be redirected.
The 350 might be poorly serviced.
As for high Nitrates, could be overfeeding.
Could be waste breaking down in the tank.
Do you gravel vac weekly ?
Hiow often and how much do you W/C ?
See what I'm saying ? It could be any number of things.

how do i put the 350 filter closer to the sand? i do a 25% wc once every thur, i gravel vac every thur to, altho my lps says not to gavel vac for the first month or so? dunno if thats correct? i service my filter pads the day after i do a wc... i have a branch in the center of the tank along with 3 rocks scattered along, i have 1 power head facing the filter and one power head on the other end facing the opposite way. So what do you recommend i do

aprox 4-5 weeks old, yes it is fully cycled, the nitrates are from waste. Tank cycled for about 6 weeks, it was tested during cycle numerious times and days after i tohught it was complete, it is cycled. Im prty sure the waste on the bottom is causing nitrates.

OK , I'll hold for the photo's.
You cycled with fish (no other details) 4-5 weeks ago.
Can we assume you are testing for and seeing no ammonia or nitrite on a daily basis ?
That whole cycling with fish thing is not neccessarily over in 5 weeks (it can be).

well i teested it for like 4 days after i thought cycle was over, was still clear, today did a liquid test for natrites and nitrates came back a little, ammonia 0

You cant see good enough in them pics... ill have my camera tomorrow.. just rly wanna figure this out its irritating
