Question for all the experts out there- I have a heavily planted 1500 gallon pond. I have two pumps, one sending water back into the pond from the overflow and the other going into a filter box. I have to clean the pre-filters every 2-3 days (plant debris). I was thinking about trying a filter cage. Anyone made one of these before? Bought one that worked well? Any other ideas? I want to go on vacation this summer and I'm not sure I would trust a house sitter to keep the water flowing.

Hey La Guera

I'm not sure if you've heard of these before but I've been told and read a lot of good things about koi vortex filters. In short the water travels into the round container and spins allowing the water to escape thrrough the top of the chamber to the next part of the filter and at the same time all the large waste/plant material sinks into the bottom of the vortex where it can be flushed away. This stops the large waste/debre clogging up the next section of the filter meaning that maintinance is considerably reduced. Take a look at the links below, they explain it much better and have diagrams to show you how it works:-

This link maybe the best one to look at

You could get 3 of these for quite cheap
