I have some older filters that were being used on other tanks that i now broke down. I was hoping to add them to my existing tanks, however i don't want to infect my current tanks with parasites or bacterial diseases that may have existed in the old tanks. How do you recommend i make these filters safe to add on these other tanks.

Run them in a separate tank with a source of ammonia for two weeks, parasites need a host and without a host they die. Most parasites and diseases life cycle is roughly two week, without a host they have no choice but to die. Stronger diseases live longer than others so depending on what disease you had look up the life cycle and keep it in a quarantine tank and basically feed the beneficial bacteria till the disease dies off.

You can also use a high dose of hydrogen peroxide in the container or empty tank you running the filters on.

+1 on bleach. Cheap and super effective. Just make sure it gets a good soaking in dechlorinator treated water afterward.
Alright, i think i'll go with the bleach just cause it seems like the fastest and simplest solution
