which is better marineland (penguin) power filter 350 or the rena smart filter 55.

i know the bio wheel 350 is capable of filtering a larger tank than the rena
70 vs 55 however i am more interested in the quality of filteration.

rena $39.00 vs marineland $47.00 both on sale

I also use the Emperor with bio-wheels. I can say I am dissatisfied with a couple of rena heaters I bought but that could be a fluke. I can't bag on their filters.

get the emperor models, they are the big boy up from the penguin and hold more media.
the emporer 400 for 48 bucks is a good deal I think at drfoster & smith
my 280 is probably 10 years old anyway and still runs like day #1

never used bio wheels, but my buddy uses them and he says they are not very good only because they start to build up with..bacteria I suppose or junk possibly?, at stop rotating? I have no experience with them...

Tell him to clean the pegs on the biowheel and the notches in the filter meant to hold them. I have never had a properly maintained biowheel stop spinning, only when I lack on maintenance.
