is there something i can put over the intakes of my biowheels to keep them from sucking up sand. i'm about to change over to sand and i want something temp tp keep them from sucking up floating sand

I heard of people putting panty hose over it to keep fish out but idk about sand...

cut a hole in the sponge and slide it on the intake

Most of the marineland power filters are quite picky about having a free flowing intake. Sponges and socks over the intake will become pre filters and cut down the flow rate. Not too bad of a problem on the emporers but enough to stop the bio wheels on the penguin's. A better methoud is to raise the level of the intake itself to mid way or even slightly higher.

yep. Move intakes up and add a sponge. or you can get heavier sand

yeah i don't use a sponge on my AC i just keep the intake about 4 inches or more off the bottom of the tank

intakes are already up. this is a temp thing just to circulate water until the sand settles. the wheels will be in water in another tank. i've but a box of powerheads in the closet. i'm thinking about getting them out.
