What micron rating would you recommend running on my W/D drip plate? I’m getting tired of the old white/ blue filter pads. I have course sponges in my overflows.

Thanks

Can you use filter socks to pre-filter, small micron filters on drip plates slow flow too much (unless you have a slow filter). Otherwise 100 micron if you have no other choice.

Why are you tired of the other material?

Dr- Unfortunately I can’t use the socks- it basically goes from my built in overflows straight to my sump bulkheads/ drip plate. My flow isn’t crazy- after head etc im pushing roughly 650GPH on my 150 gallon tank. I have a Truvu 300 series wetdry in the mail- Im upgrading because I would like more bio area than the 4 gallons I have now.

I just want to escape the disposable blue pad. With the micron I can have one or two in the washer while im using the other- just seems more simple

I've seen this used on drip plates before. When they get dirty, the water runs over the pad and over the sides of the drip plate around the outside of the bioballs. You can imagine the damage it can do to your bb with the water missing the bioballs for hours.

Maybe ill stick with what im using. Ive also heard of some folks using pillow stuffing on their drip plates- maybe ill just get a bunch and replace it when dirty.

Update

I got some 100 micron pad from MD, put it over some egg crate on my drip tray-GREAT results! I like the fact that once the pad becomes saturated it distributes the water that much more over the entire tray! It also seems to trap a lot more waste from the water- a much larger area becomes soiled rather than just one small spot.

100 microns is all you need? You can get filter socks on ebay for like 2 bucks each. Thats crazy though I would filter down to like 10. I filter my trucks fuel down to 1, so I guess 100 seems big to me.
